Lady Bombers Young But Experienced

The KHS softball team only has one senior, but they believe they can still get things done with a young squad.

Sophia Cartellone, the lone senior, is excited even though her leadership role is larger than she’s ever had before.

“My expectations for this year are a little different than last year because we did lose four very vital players and it’s going to be difficult without them. But, we have a really hard-working group of girls who will be able to pull it off,” said Cartellone.

Coach Annie Dubovec is optimistic when it comes to her young players and is excited about her upperclassmen. She expects to surprise teams if the younger girls play how they know how to play.

Last year, the seniors used their leadership skills to show the younger players how to lead in the future years, and that’s what this year’s upperclassmen plan to do.

Angela Kale, one of the leaders of the team, is a junior who strives to lead by example.

“[I] set the example in practice of when you can have fun and when we need to focus. I also hope to give them really good advice so they excel this year,” said Kale.

This team may be young, but they have plenty of experience with JV and Varsity softball.

“Even though we don’t have a lot of seniors this year, we do have a big staff of upperclassmen that I expect to lead and even a couple of sophomores that have at least seen some varsity experience over the last year or so. So I’m pretty excited to see that we have some good freshmen coming in as well,” said Dubovec.

The Lady Bombers jump back in action for the first time this season for their home opener on March 25 against Geneva High School.
