KIS-Remote Learning Beginning December 7th-Schedules and Info.

December 4, 2020
Dear Kenston Intermediate School Families,
As we transition to all remote learning starting Monday, December 7 through December 22, I wanted to share with you some important information to help students and families better prepare for this transition. Throughout the school year our teachers and staff have been working with students to ensure that they have the resources and skills needed to be successful during remote instruction. Teachers reviewed their daily schedules with their classes, provided instruction on how to connect virtually using Google Classroom and Google Meet, along with helping students gather instructional materials and personal belongings to carry home.
Homeroom teachers will be communicating with students and parents with additional information specific to your child’s class.
MATERIALS
  •  During remote instruction the KIS main vestibule will be open each school day from 8:00am-3:00pm for drop off or pick up of any classroom assignments and projects that are not digital. For those who cannot pick up materials during the school day, please contact the specific teacher or call the KIS main office to schedule pickup times.
DAILY SCHEDULE
Your child’s teacher will communicate more details.
  • Teachers will use Google Classroom, Google Drive, Google Meet, and other resources that they have been using with students in their classrooms.
  • Teachers will be providing instruction both synchronously (live lessons) and asynchronously (not live). Additionally, teachers will have opportunities to connect with students in small groups or individually as needed. Students will also be provided with opportunities to learn independently and collaboratively.
SPECIAL AREA CLASSES
  • Special Area Teachers will post weekly assignments to their Google Classroom for students to access during the week.  Click here to see the schedule and helpful information.
SUPPORT SERVICES
  • For students who are receiving special education or additional academic services, the teachers providing the interventions will contact families directly to discuss how instructional support will be provided in the Remote Learning setting.
LUNCH
  • All KIS students will be excused for lunch and recess from 11:45-1:00 daily. A common lunch time for all students will provide families with multiple children the convenience to plan one lunch versus separate lunch times.
  • The Nutrition Service Department will continue to offer free lunches to students during Remote Learning. If a family wishes to participate in the lunch program, a sign up process is available using a Google form. Meal items will be delivered once a week to one of the six pick-up locations in the community. The meals will cover the amount of days each week students are learning remotely.
ALL STUDENTS…
  • will be expected to log in at the start of each day for their classroom meeting and complete the Start Your Day With Mr. Watts Google Form.
  • will remain at home; campus will be closed for students and families.
  • will have District-issued Chromebooks.
  • will follow their daily schedule for Remote Learning, established by their homeroom teacher.
  • will participate in live sessions as scheduled and complete work assigned.
  • will follow classroom norms and expectations when technology is in use.
  • will benefit from a designated space at home to optimize learning.
ATTENDANCE
  • Attendance will be taken through the Google Class meeting at the beginning of the day and again after your child’s lunch. If your child is not able to connect for virtual learning, please call the KIS office to report the absence at 440-543-9722.
WEEKLY COMMUNICATIONS
  • A weekly e-communication from the building will be provided to keep families informed of any important announcements or details regarding remote learning.
Once you have received a direct communication from your child’s teacher, if any specific questions remain, please don’t hesitate to contact our office or your child’s teacher.
We hope that everyone stays safe and healthy during this time. We will miss seeing the students in person but look forward to when we can all come together again.
Sincerely,
Matt Watts
Principal
