For those of you who are new to KHS, let us introduce ourselves! MAAK, or the Musical Arts Association of Kenston, exists as a parent booster group to support the musical arts at Kenston High School. This includes the Marching Band, Concert Band, Dance Team, and all of the Chorus and Chorale groups. If you have a student involved in any of these groups…you too are a MAAK Member! Careful planning and effort of former and current MAAK parents over the past several years have put MAAK in a position to purchase and donate to the Kenston Schools the following totaling over $100,000: New KHS Marching Band & Bomberette uniforms, new risers for the chorus & chorale, dance team equipment, several new instruments including sousaphones, drumline instruments, french horns, euphoniums, and a bassoon to name a few.
To facilitate these donations and activities MAAK’s primary fundraising effort is operating the concession stand for home athletic events held in our Bomber Stadium. MAAK is driven by parent volunteers, including the MAAK Board of Directors and Coordinators, all of whom work very hard to make our support possible. Besides mentioned above, MAAK members also provide:
- Hospitality to visiting marching bands.
- Dessert receptions at musical performances.
- Labor and funding for the ongoing care of musical equipment and uniforms.
- Scholarships on a competitive basis to MAAK seniors to be used for attending their college of choice.
- Accounting and bookkeeping support to facilitate activities such as trips by the students to DisneyWorld and New York City.
- Guest musicians and professionals.
- Student recognition plaques, letters and corsages.
We are proud to be associated with the Kenston Local School District and will continue its efforts to support the musical arts at Kenston. But, we can’t be successful without your help. It takes many, many volunteers to successfully reach our goals for our students benefit. It’s a lot of fun to meet fellow MAAK parents and students while volunteering. As the athletic seasons continue, we will be asked to provide concessions for other sports played at Kenston Bomber Stadium. Sometimes we request adult help only and other times students are welcome to volunteer. Of course, they will always receive volunteer hours for their effort. You will receive requests (and sometimes begging and pleading) from us throughout the school year. If everyone commits to volunteering a few hours or events per year, we will easily fill our demands. There are a lot of different opportunities– and we can’t thank you enough for your dedication to our Kenston students.
Membership!
All parents/guardians of students participating in one of the musical arts ensembles are granted membership in MAAK.
