Seth Cales named Treasurer

March 24, 2023
The Kenston Board of Education is pleased to announce the hiring of Mr. Seth S. Cales as Treasurer of the Kenston Schools.

At the March 24 Special Meeting, the Board of Education unanimously voted to award Mr. Cales a 3-year contract beginning August 1, 2023, through July 31, 2026, at an annual salary of $135,000.  He will serve as Interim Treasurer from July 10, 2023, until July 31, 2023, when he will leave his current position as Treasurer of the Cardinal Local School District.  He will replace Mr. Ryan Pendleton, who has served as Interim Treasurer.

The Board of Education contracted with Finding Leaders to conduct the Executive Search for the Treasurer.  They screened and vetted candidates before presenting the final three candidates to the Board.  The District extends its gratitude for the outstanding services Finding Leaders provided during the search.

“We are thrilled to welcome Seth to the Bomber family,” said Kenston Board of Education President Mrs. Jennifer Troutman.  “His vast experience in corporate financing, forecasting, cash management, and reporting dovetails with the responsibilities he will undertake as Kenston’s Treasurer.  Even more impressive is his eagerness to elevate his team’s knowledge and skill set as it applies to their careers.  He is passionate about mentoring his team.”

“I am very excited to be chosen as the next Treasurer of Kenston Local Schools,” said Mr. Cales.  “Kenston has a long tradition of academic excellence and strong extra-curricular activities that provide students with many great opportunities.  I look forward to working with the District’s faculty, staff, community members, and students to continue building upon this tradition.”

Mr. Cales has over twelve years of experience in financial analysis, modeling, forecasting, cash management, fuel/fleet management, capital allocation, project management, budgeting, and financial reporting.  He received his Master of Business Administration from Texas A&M University.  He holds a Bachelor of Business Administration with a concentration in Economics from Kent State University.  He is also an officer in the U.S. Navy Reserves.

Mr. Cales will advise the Board of Education on all financial matters and oversee the District’s financial operations.  His responsibilities include preparing state and federal reports, developing and monitoring the District’s annual budget and five-year forecast, advising on financial implications of decisions related to the education of students, and active communication with the Board and community.

“The Board is really looking forward to the partnership Seth will have with Mr. Sayers and their collective efforts to develop a healthy and sustainable financial future for the District,” said Mrs. Troutman.  “Seth is incredibly talented in financial forecasting, and we are confident that he will assist in developing a financial strategy for the District that maintains our excellent educational success while being a good steward of tax dollars.”
