FIVE-YEAR LIMITED TERM IMPROVEMENT LEVY

On May 15, 2023, the Board of Education unanimously approved the first of two resolutions to place a 1.35 mill Permanent Improvement (PI) levy on the November 2023 ballot.

The Board approved the proposed five-year, limited-term levy.

Mr. Sayers said, “We are accountable to our taxpayers and want to be good stewards of the tax dollars entrusted to us. Should the community choose to support the PI levy, the District will have five years to demonstrate and follow through on how it wants to use the funds before seeking renewal five years down the road.”

Permanent Improvement Levy Facts

  • PI funds can be used for items such as school buses, repairs to roofs and parking lots, boilers, safety and security upgrades, classroom furniture, technology upgrades and improvements, wireless upgrades, etc., that have a life span of five years or more.
  • Revenue from a PI Levy cannot be used for salaries, benefits, or the school district’s day-to-day operations.
  • Kenston is 1 of only 13% of school districts in Ohio that DOES NOT have a Permanent Improvement (PI) Levy to protect the communities’ investment in our school facilities.

The Board’s next steps to place the levy on the ballot are to have the County Auditor certify the legal counsel’s estimates. That certification will be used to prepare a second resolution to be voted on at the June 20th Regular Board Meeting and submitted to the Geauga County Board of Elections.
