Kenston awarded $247,000 in Safety Grants

Governor Mike DeWine recently announced that Kenston would receive over $227,000 in funding as part of the fifth round of Ohio’s K-12 School Safety Grant program. This new round of funding brings the total number of schools served by this program to 2,789 and the total amount of funding awarded to more than $215 million. The Ohio Safety Grant program was created in 2021 to help schools pay for physical security expenses such as new security cameras, public address systems, automatic door locks, visitor badging systems, and exterior lighting.

The District will use these funds to upgrade and add to campus security cameras, door control systems and integrate video capabilities with the radio communication system.

Kenston also received a $20,000 Ohio Attorney General Law Enforcement Safety grant to install Flock cameras. Flock cameras are automatic license plate readers that are part of a central database and, within seconds, can alert law enforcement if a vehicle connected to a wanted criminal or missing person shows up in the system.

Jeremy McDevitt, Assistant Superintendent for Business Operations and Human Resources, stated, “These grant funds are part of our ongoing efforts to maintain and upgrade campus security to create a safe environment for learning.”
