Transportation Update

November 29, 2022

Dear Kenston Families,

We are sending this message to our families to proactively make you aware of the continuing challenges facing the Transportation Department. We are working extremely hard to utilize our current staff and continue transporting all of our students to and from school daily.

Despite our best efforts, we continue to be concerned about our ability to transport all our students daily. Therefore, we anticipate that there may be days when we will be forced to cancel bus routes and ask for your assistance in transporting your children to and from school. If this becomes a reality, a notification would be communicated only to those directly impacted via automated call and text messaging with as much notice as possible, similar to a Snow/Calamity Day.

While we hope that this request will not become a reality, we want to make you aware of the possibility so that you can make the necessary arrangements. Please create a plan. We encourage you to develop carpool arrangements with family, friends, and neighbors should your child’s bus route be cancelled and you are asked to provide transportation.

Should it become necessary to ask for your assistance in transporting your children to school, the school buildings will open earlier to receive students and assist families.

Timmons Elementary School doors will be opened at 8am

Kenston Intermediate School doors will be opened at 8am

Kenston Middle School doors will be opened at 7am

Kenston High School doors will be opened at 7am

If you cannot transport your child to school, please call the school office, and the student will be excused from school. All school work will be provided with no academic penalty for missing school.

We understand the inconvenience this creates for our families and appreciate your partnership as we work to address this ongoing challenge. If you or anyone you know is interested in becoming a Substitute Transportation Aide or Bus/Van Driver, please go to Kenston’s website and search Employment Opportunities or contact our Transportation Department at (440) 543-9567. The District provides free training for all positions, including Class B Commercial Drivers License (CDL).

Thank you for your understanding and support.

Sincerely,

Steven A. Sayers

Interim Superintendent
