Athletic Department Update

At the September 19, 2022 Board of Education Meeting, Kenston Athletic Department Director, Reid Guarnieri, presented information about the High School Athletic Department. Kenston High School is a member of the Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) competing in several divisions as a member of the Western Reserve Conference.
This year, KHS has 480 students competing on 51 teams in 25 sports and 2 cheer seasons. Of the teams, we have 3 Freshmen, 21 Junior Varsity, and 27 Varsity Teams.
Kenston competes in OHSAA Division I:

  • Boys/Girls Track
  • Gymnastics
  • Hockey
Division II:
  • Baseball
  • Boys/Girls Basketball
  • Boys/Girls Cross Country
  • Boys/Girls Lacrosse
  • Boys/Girls Soccer
  • Softball
  • Boys/Girls Swimming and Diving
  • Boys/Girls Tennis
  • Girls Volleyball
  • Wrestling
Division III:
  • Football (only sport requiring postseason qualification; 16 teams in the region selected)
To help our Athletic Department be successful, we are thankful for the many people who work and volunteer with the teams. We have over 73 coaches (17 are teachers in the district; 15 are unpaid volunteers; 9 coach multiple sports), Athletic Trainer Viv McKinney (University Hospitals), Game Operations Managers, Event and Ticket Workers, Photographer and the Public Announcers, Scoreboard and Entertainment team.
Over the last five years, we have had many accomplishments. In 2018, Football State Championship; 2021 Bowling Individual State Champion, Jenna Stretch; 2021 State Runner-Up in Gymnastics; 2022 Baseball State Tournament Qualifier; 6 District Championships; 35 Conference Titles including 6 All Sports WRC Trophies; 70 All-State student-athletes and 80 student-athletes continuing playing careers in college.
