Superintendent Search Update

June 14, 2022

At the Monday, June 13, Board of Education Work Session, the board identified the next steps in the superintendent search process.

Since the board announced the extension of the superintendent search process, additional applications have been received.  The Ohio School Boards Association (OSBA) continues to manage the search process.  Beginning Tuesday, June 21, first round interviews will be conducted with the candidates named below.

Candidates selected for first interviews are:

  • Ted Gorman, high school principal, Steubenville City Schools
  • Dr. Edward Klein, assistant superintendent, Chardon Local Schools
  • Dr. Betty Jo Malchesky, assistant superintendent, Perry Local Schools
  • Dr. Paul Milcetich, assistant superintendent: curriculum and instruction, Aurora City Schools

The board will also consider Tom Gabram, high school principal, in the selection process.

Stakeholder focus group input from early May that provided common themes to help evaluate the candidates will be used by the board.

After the first round of interviews are completed on Tuesday, June 21, the board will deliberate and announce the finalist candidates to the community.  From June 22 to 28, reference checks and executive skill assessments will be completed.

The Board of Education invites community members and staff to meet the finalists in a combined session on Tuesday, June 28 (additional details will follow). The administrative team will meet separately with the candidates.  At this time, each candidate will share their background and answer questions previously submitted by community members and staff that were part of the original process.  OSBA will moderate these sessions.  In addition, you will be asked to complete a feedback form for each candidate that will be used as part of the school board’s superintendent search process.  Also on this evening, finalists will meet with the board for a second interview.

It is the goal of the board to have a superintendent named by the beginning of July to start their contract on August 1.

We appreciate your input and interest as we work to find the best individual to serve as the next Superintendent of Kenston Schools.
