Food Pantry Still Helping Those in Need

As life continues to return to normal, many individuals and families still need extra support due to the pandemic.

The Bainbridge Area Food for Friends, a local non-profit organization, aims to help individuals and families in the community who are in need of food and other supplies.

“It started 31 years ago and it has really grown in the last couple years due to the virus,” said Rolly Lufkin, the treasurer and pantry coordinator.

Due to the pandemic, many families dealt with the loss of jobs and financial troubles, putting many in greater need of assistance fr-om the food pantry. However, the pandemic did not set the organization back. With the help of numerous individuals donating more food and supplies than ever, the food pantry was able to supply for the growing number of families in need.

“COVID has allowed many people to see the issue differently. The need has doubled — for us and for everyone in the whole industry,” said President Mark Fagerholm. “I think that has brought awareness up quite a bit. We have seen lines go up, both in the need of what we are distributing and in the generosity of people to support the organization. It just works in tandem.”

Bainbridge Area Food for Friends would not be able to help those in need without the support of the community. People continue to make a difference every day with food drives, donations, cash donations, and more.

“The community in Bainbridge is just so awesome. We receive donations from Bainbridge area residents, and we provide the services to Bainbridge area residents. So, really it is just everyone coming together — from the township trustees to the businesses in the area to the schools. Everyone supports the activities here to make sure people get the food they need and when they need it,” said Fagerholm.
