KHS to Host Homecoming with Some Restrictions

This year’s “Fall Harvest” themed homecoming dance will take place on Oct. 9 with safety measures to keep attendees safe.

Students will wear masks and attend the dance during different time slots because adequate social distancing could not be achieved with all the students in the gym at one time.

Students in 9th and 10th grade will attend the dance from 5:30-7:30 p.m. and 11th and 12th graders will attend from 8-10 p.m.

Many students have mixed opinions about the restrictions of this year’s homecoming dance.

“It’s a little different than what we’ve done in the past. As much as I would like to be together, it’s better than nothing,” said senior Sammi Stefancin.

Ms. Megan Valenti, head of the student council, explained that originally homecoming wasn’t going to take place due to the pandemic, but as COVID protocols changed, plans for the homecoming dance changed.

“We were really waiting on some guidance on what to do based off the different kinds of numbers and the pandemic. We didn’t have a set plan in place, but our plans were really evolving as the dance got closer,” said Ms. Valenti.

Many of the other homecoming week events cancelled last year are returning this year, including the homecoming parade and Bomber Games.

The Bomber Games will take place during lunch blocks and after school during homecoming week. Students will compete in spikeball and cornhole tournaments during all lunch blocks, along with softball and kickball championships in the evening.

Spirit week will include themed days such as tie dye, jerseys, western wear, pink for breast cancer awareness, and class colors.

Tickets for the dance will be sold for $15 during lunch from Oct. 4-8.▮
