Should your child stay home?

Please do not send your child to school if they are ill. Sometimes your child may say they need to attend and the only way for them to be at school is to medicate them so that their fever, cough, or diarrhea is “hidden” and they can make it through the day. These students are not comfortable in school and they expose their classmates and teachers to illness.

Guidelines for keeping students home from school

  • Nausea, vomiting and/or diarrhea within the past 24 hours.
  • Severe persistent coughing or a severe cold.
  • An oral temperature of 100 degrees or higher.
  • Their temperature should remain normal for 24 hours
  • Undetermined skin rash.
  • Red, watery, burning eyes with either white or yellow drainage.
  • All communicable diseases including head lice, strep throat chickenpox, etc.
  • If your child receives an antibiotic for a communicable disease, they should take the medication for 24 hours before returning to school.

Reporting Student Illness

The Geauga County Health Department has requested that we assist them in tracking communicable diseases in our county. When you call the school to report your child absent, the school needs the following information:

  • Why your child is absent.
  • What are the symptoms. Be specific nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, cough, fever, muscle aches etc.
  • Let the building know if your child was seen by a physician. Please give the doctors’ diagnosis. Was any medication prescribed.

Please report absences to the high/middle schools by 7:45am

Elementary absences should be reported by 9am
