Curriculum
The Kenston Local Schools curriculum is aligned with the Ohio Department of Education Academic Content Standards in English/Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Fine Arts, Foreign Language, Physical Education and Library/Media. All other content area curriculum, such as Health and Family and Consumer Science are aligned with national standards.
The curriculum is articulated from kindergarten to twelfth grade in the core content areas of English/Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies. Other K-12 content areas include Health, Music, Art, and Physical Education.
Kenston teachers develop the curriculum using research-based instructional practice. In order to meet student needs, the curriculum is differentiated both within classrooms and across grade levels at the elementary level, within teams at the middle school level, and within departments at the high school level. Intervention specialists for exceptional children collaborate with classroom teachers to provide specialized instruction for students across the spectrum, from those needing additional individualized support to those needing enrichment.

Why Do Schools Give State Tests?
While no testing mechanism is perfect, the required state assessments provide school districts, parents and communities with one important measure on the overall success of a district’s performance. They reflect a set of shared expectations of what students should be able to know or do and ensure that schools are held accountable for providing high-quality education for the children in their community. State test results are included as one component of measurement on the annual District Report Card prepared by the Ohio Department of Education.
There are other diagnostic and summative assessment activities that teachers expertly use throughout a school year to measure and monitor student progress in a standards-based curriculum, as well as a tool to guide their instruction. The state tests, however, provide different, yet important information to a teacher, school or district. The data provided through State Assessments allows for consistent annual measurements of success, comparison with surrounding schools and districts and overall strengths and weakness for instructional improvement and school accountability.
Google and 3rd Party App Consent
At Kenston Local Schools, we use Google Workspace for Education, and are making you aware that we provide and manage a Google Workspace for Education account for your child. Google Workspace for Education is a set of education productivity tools from Google including Gmail, Calendar, Docs, Classroom, and more used by tens of millions of students and teachers around the world. At Kenston Local Schools, students will use their Google Workspace for Education accounts to complete assignments, communicate with their teachers, sign into their Chromebooks, and learn 21st century digital citizenship skills.
Additionally, certain educational tools and apps require students under the age of 18 to receive parental consent. When deemed appropriate by teachers and building administrations, these students will be granted access to these services and 3rd party apps as part of the curriculum with their Google Workspace for Education accounts. Kenston Local Schools only stores the student’s first name, last name, student ID, and email addresses in Google Workspace.
Additional information about Google Workspace for Education and a list of approved Google Workspace for Education services and 3rd party apps that are used by students can be found here.
