Kenston Skypes The US Embassy in the UK

Students of Mrs.Smith’s government class this semester were given a special learning opportunity. The opportunity came after an Assistant Head Teacher by the name of Alain Cozens came across our website. Alain Cozens said, “I came across the US school’s website during a web search and discovered it to have one of the best school websites I have come across.” Upon reaching the Kenston Website he found Mrs. Smith’s Website. Truly impressed by our website, Mr.Cozens decided to email Mrs.Smith. After a few weeks of contacting each other back and forth, the two planned a Skype call among their two classes.

The discussion was a success, and neither side faced and technical issues. Both classes seemed to be well informed, and had some interesting questions for the other class. Some of the topics discussed included the merits of US presidential candidates and the issue of money in politics. Kenston’s Matthew Stanonis said, “I thought it was really interesting to compare the US congressional system with the UK parliamentary system, and overall it was very cool experience.” Jack Rini said, “It was interesting to see students outside our country show interest in US politics.” The conference should benefit both classes and both teachers plan to attempt something similar again next year.
