Students involved with Creating Exceptional Character (CEC) worked alongside Ms. Ganoe’s independent living class to open a coffee shop at Kenston High School.
The first delivery took place on Feb. 22 with eighteen teachers ordering coffee from the shop, which goes by the name of Bomber Barista.
Mrs. Fruchter, a math teacher who ordered coffee, said “The coffee was good, and it was delivered hot. You could tell the students took a lot of time to make the decorative sleeves. They were also very courteous while they delivering the coffee. It’s a great idea to give the students a little bit of work experience and this will hopefully spread to the student body.”
The shop opened in hopes for students with special needs to receive experience in the workforce and to improve communication skills.
The recent launch could be just the beginning for the Bomber Barista as they have plans to grow in the future.
CEC teacher Amanda Phipps said, “We’re going to do coffee, maybe some flavored creamers, and hopefully add on a pastry or some breakfast type items.”
To start, the classes began with this soft opening to the staff, but they hope they can eventually open the shop to the student body.
