WILLOUGHBY, Ohio — No. 15 Kenston clinched a home playoff game and a share of the Western Reserve Conference title with 40-25 victory over Willoughby South on Friday.
Kenston (9-1, 6-1) will share the title with Chardon and Riverside. The Wildcats will host a game next week in the D-III, Region 9 playoffs.
Kenston led 33-3 at the half. South rallied with 22 points to start the second half before quarterback Jon Tomcufcik’s 53-yard touchdown run ended any dreams of a magical comeback.
Tomcufcik threw touchdown passes of 19 and 68 yards to Tyler Mintz. Jay Middleton returned a kickoff 85-yards for a touchdown after South’s only points of the first half.
Ira Sampson and Rico Small each had 5-yard runs in the third quarter for the Rebels. Small also caught a 37-yard touchdown from Justin Grosel in the fourth quarter that cut the score to 33-25.
Willoughby South’s season ended with 2-8 record.
