A balanced offensive attack and solid defense are two characteristics that can bring a smile to Kenston coach Jeff Grubich’s face.
The Bombers had plenty of the former in their Sept. 28 WRC clash with visiting Mayfield, and just enough of the latter, and the resulting 42-28 victory over the Wildcats put smiles on all of the Bombers’ faces on homecoming.
The win kept Kenston perfect at 6-0 overall, and 3-0 in the WRC, and snapped a 3-year losing streak to Mayfield. The Bombers built a 29-7 halftime lead, and increased it to 42-14 in the fourth quarter before the Wildcats scored twice late in the game to make it respectable.
“That’s the key,” Grubich said regarding his team’s ability to balance its offensive attack. “We’re not this team that’s going to bang its head if they’ve got an eight-man box, we’re going to throw the ball around the yard. If they drop back in coverage, we’re going to run the ball.”
