2017 Sectionals at Sky Lanes

The ladies’ arrival at the school at 7:15 AM Sunday morning marked the beginning of a day full of bowling. The Bomber Bowlers traveled to Garrettsville’s Sky Lanes for the Division I Sectionals Tournament. Both the boys and girls were up against a completely different set of teams, with the majority coming from southeastern Ohio. The girls bowled first at 9 a.m. and the boys bowled at 1 p.m. until the evening.

After the first game, Kenston’s girls were in first place with 921 pins! At the end of the three regular games, Kenston was in third behind Warren G. Harding and Howland. Senior, Annie Rizzo, was the top scorer of the team with a 530 series; she also had the team’s high game with a 209 in the first game. Going into the baker’s, the girls knew the other teams weren’t too far behind them. They had to work as a team and make their spares to stay in the top four. Initially, the team ended in fifth missing district qualification by one pin! At this point, Annie Rizzo was to advance as the fourth individual to the district tournament. However, the girls score for the last baker game was recorded incorrectly! OHSAA rules were consulted and phone calls were made, while the team sat in anticipation. In the end, the Kenston girls placed fourth, advancing the entire team to districts in Canton this upcoming Sunday! They have another week of focused practices ahead of them, in preparation for districts for the second year in a row!

The boys were next to bowl! Andrew Weisberg had the team’s high game with a 193 in the first game! At the end of the three regular games, Kenston was in second to last. The boys had to bowl their best to move up in the rankings with the tough competition. In the end, they placed thirteenth in the tournament, finishing off a good season. Coach Drsek said, “After a long day of bowling, I want to thank all of the bowlers for trying their hardest.”
