CONGRATULATIONS: Your KHS Speech team represented Kenston with pride at our State Tournament in Cincinnati over the weekend. 7 students qualified- the largest number to date- and made the 4 hour trek- 2 night stay- 2 day competition to Princeton High School. Congratulations to Savannah Georgian, Megan Herbruck,Belle Puckett, Anna Soryal, Jessica Sunderhaft and Kim Voudris for 4 solid rounds of competition. At the end of the preliminaries, one Kenston student continued- Morgan Spehar! At the end of the quarter finals, one Kenston student still continued- Morgan Spehar! Congratulations to Morgan Spehar for a great ride and placing 9th in the State of Ohio in Informative Speaking! Huge shout out to the entire team and co-coach Fred Snook for a great season of Kenston Speech!

TODAY our school is joining almost 29,000 schools nationwide in The LLS Student Series’ Pennies for Patients program. For the next few weeks, we will help patients with blood cancers. All you have to do is collect coins and other donations and put them in your classroom’s collection box.

Seniors – don’t you need money for college? There are a lot of scholarships here waiting to give you money for books, tuition, etc. in college. It takes a bit of time to fill them out but it’s worth a try. Deadlines are fast approaching. See Guidance for updates.

Ever consider working for the FBI? Well now you possibly can! Future Agents in Training (FAIT) is a program hosted by the FBI Cleveland Field Office that invites high school students to receive hands-on training. The program will run June 14-17, 2016. This program works to educate and inform students about the mission of the FBI including criminal, cyber threats, terrorism, and administrative functions. Students learn from special agents, intelligence analysts, and a variety of professional staff about investigative tactics that include gather evidence, interviewing witnesses, and solving cases. Requirements are 16-18 years old with at least a 3.0. Essays and applications are due by March 31, 2016. Applications are available in the Guidance Office or you can print an application and visit the “in Your Community” link.

Students interested in FORESTS AND NATURAL RESOURCES can attend a forestry and wildlife conservation camp June 12-17 at Camp Muskingum. Sponsored by the Ohio Forestry Association. See Guidance for more information. Funding is available for those who qualify. Apply at geaugaswcd.com and submit entry to the GSWC District by 3 p.m. April 1.

Learn how to debate and get firsthand experience to give you a head start for the fall debate season. KCE is offering “Learn How to Debate” Thursdays, March 31-May 5 from 6:30-8 p.m. at KMS. SCHOLARSHIPS! SCHOLARSHIPS! SCHOLARSHIPS! Attention seniors! Several scholarships are ending soon. Don’t miss the deadlines!

Kenston Community Education Scholarship must be mailed or returned to KCE by Tuesday, March 8.

Bainbridge Women’s Club Scholarship must be returned to Guidance or the Bainbridge Library no later than next Friday, March 11.

Kenston Academic Booster Scholarship – deadline is March 18.

The MAAK Scholarship application –Seniors must be (or have been) a member of concert and/or marching band, chorus or the dance team. Deadline is March 18.

The Ohio State University Delta Theta Sigma fraternity offers over $10,000 in scholarships to MALE incoming freshmen students (fall 2016) enrolling at the Columbus campus regardless of their major. This professional agricultural fraternity promotes the following principals: promotion of agriculture, securing a high degree of scholarship, fostering the spirit of brotherhood and assisting in social, behavioral and cultural development of its members. Applications are in Guidance and must be mailed to be received by March 20, 2016.

The Chagrin Valley Rotary scholarship is now available – copies in Guidance. The application must be mailed to be RECEIVED by 6:00 PM on Friday, April 1. You may bring to Guidance no later than March 29 (the day we return from spring break) to be mailed – or mail yourself once you’ve completed the application. Grants may range up to $5,000 and may be renewable. Criteria is need, community service, academics and extracurriculars. Don’t miss the deadline!!

Seniors: There are a lot of job listings on the job board across from Guidance. Any senior over 18 who is planning to major in education or interested in working with youth, stop in Guidance for a flier on a summer full-time position as a youth development instructor with the Hillcrest YMCA to be held at Chagrin Falls Intermediate School this summer.
