CALLING ALL BOMBERS: Michaela Barnes is in the running for the Ohio National Guard JJHuddle Ohio High School Athlete of the Week. You can vote as many times as you want. Let’s rally around Michaela with our votes. Voting ends on Monday, February 22 at noon. There is a link on our home page in the upper right corner.

The KENSTON HIGH SCHOOL SCIENCE OLYMPIAD TEAM placed sixth overall and qualified fourth for the State Tournament at the Case Western Reserve University Regional Tournament last Saturday, February 20th. This is the twelfth time Kenston has qualified for the State Tournament in its twelve year history. CWRU recognizes the first five placings, but only gives awards to the first three placings.
Individual Results: Disease Detectives – Antal Silva, Mara Cass – 4th place; Forensics – Carmaletta Hinson, Leander Held – 4th place; Game On – William Parsons, Luke Ballard – 2nd place; Geologic Mapping – Ashley Dvorak, Austin Borland – 3rd place; Invasive Species – Carmaletta Hinson, Ryan Sauder – 1st place
Congratulations to all of the Team members! The Team’s next tournament will be the State Tournament at the Ohio State University April 9th.

This past Friday and Saturday, selected members of the SPEECH AND DEBATE TEAM traveled to St. Ignatius High School to compete in the National Speech and Debate qualifying tournament that determined Cleveland’s qualifiers to the National Tournament this coming June in Salt Lake City. While we didn’t qualify anyone for Salt Lake City, the team did very well.
Nick Vitello reached quarter finals in Humorous Interp; Megan Herbruck and Savannah Georgian competed in the semi-finals of Duo Interp.; Belle Pucket pushed her way through to semi-finals in Original Oratory, and Morgan Spehar reached the final round of Informational Speaking, placing 5th, to add to our list of State Qualifiers who will compete at Cincinnati Princeton High School March 3rd-5th.

WEDNESDAY: Lakeland Community College is hosting an Engineering Technologies Open House from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 24 in the E-building lower level. Discover careers in civil engineering technology and construction management, electronic engineering, mechanical engineering, network infrastructure engineering, nuclear engineering, industrial welding and computer integrated manufacturing technology. Junior women exploring engineering are invited to a free daylong engineering event at Purdue University on April 11. Registrations are due by April 4 and limited capacity. Register at www.purdue.edu/WIEP.

Due to several factors, it has been decided TO EXTEND THE DEADLINE FOR APPLICATION TO THE 2016 GEAUGA GROWTH PARTNERSHIP SUMMER INTERN PROGRAM. Interested students will have until February 26th to deliver their complete applications. They can be emailed to gklemencic@geaugagrowth.com or mailed to 12373 Kinsman Rd, Suite C-106, Newbury, Ohio. They must be received no later than Feb. 26th at 5 PM so they can arrange for the pre interviews.
