Every year, dance teams from around the country come to Cleveland to compete in the Hard Rockin’ National Cheer and Dance Championships. On Sunday, January 31, our Lady Bomber Dance Team once again came out on top at the competition. Not only did they perform extremely well, but our team was the only high school team to compete.
Teams came from New York, Kentucky, Pennsylvannia, Maryland, and Ohio, but all were All-Star teams or Studio Teams. Being the only high school team, our Dance Team had to work very hard to win. The girls competed against world champions in Pom, Lyrical, and Jazz.
At the end of the competition, the team with the highest score wins Grand Champion. The girls were able to deliver the highest scores in Pom (246.5 points) and Kick (264 points). This makes the team National Champions in both routines.
“We are really proud of everyone. The whole team put in a lot of effort and it is a great way for us to end the season,” said Senior Captain Hayley Harris. For the seniors, this marks the end of their high school dance career.
Not only did the girls win this year, but this is the tenth year in a row in which Kenston has been National Champions in Pom and Kick. The team walked away from the competition with National Champion Banters, guitars, National Champion Sweatshirts and a Grand Champion Jacket.
“It felt really good to win again, especially seeing how hard we worked,” senior dancer Gabby Groff comments. “It is really rewarding to beat Studio teams and this competition was the best way we could have ended the season!”
Congratulations to all the girls, and good luck to next year’s team as they hope to continue the wining streak!
