The Kenston Hockey team stepped on the ice to play the North Royalton Bears at the Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland on Friday, January 29th. The players left school early at 1 o’clock on Friday in order to make it to the game. The players had the opportunity to walk down to the lowest level of the Q where all the professional players got ready for their important games, even passing the Cleveland Cavaliers lockers on the way to their own.
North Royalton took an early lead in the game with a goal off the post and in past starting goalie Brandon Wenger. Kenston countered back with a goal by Jonathan Wiegand to tie the game 1-1. Throughout the rest of the game, the Bombers tallied 3 more goals, scored by Jack Zalinsky, Von Houk, and captain, Ryan Herpy. The goalies Brandon Wenger and Kent Mack stood strong, not allowing any more goals and ending the game 4-1 in Kenston’s favor. Sophomore Tyler Holub, said “It was a fun game to play and exciting to play in such a big arena, good practice for when I’m older.” The team and loyal fans that came out to support the team enjoyed the luxury of watching the Lake Erie Monsters play afterwards, who beat the Texas Stars 3-2 in a nail bitter. It was a great day at the Q for our Kenston Bombers and our Lake Erie Monsters.
