Congratulations to the Kenston High School Science Olympiad Team for coming in 5th at the pretentious Solon Invitational. Forty eight teams from five different states competed at Solon High School last weekend. Ohio teams placed in the top five pushing out teams from out of state that last year went to the national tournament! Congratulations to the entire team.

AUDITION TIME! Remember auditions for the SPRING MUSICAL are Monday at 4pm and Tuesday at 6pm. You only need to come to one of them, but you must be ON TIME. Check the Kenston Center Stage webpage for more details.

The KHS Winter Dance has been RESCHEDULED for February 27th @ 7PM in the Gym.

Students interested in learning more about taking courses through the College Credit Plus program at Kent State Geauga should consider attending an information session on Feb. 4 at 6 p.m. at both the Burton and Twinsburg locations. Stop by Guidance for an information flier.
Kenston High School will host the annual College Credit Plus Info Night on February 18 here at KHS.
ALL students interested in participating in College Credit Plus for the 2016-17 school year (taking high school and college courses at the same time) MUST attend Kenston’s info session – this includes those who are already in the program, those planning to take classes off-campus and those who plan to take CCP classes offered here at KHS. Mark the date on your calendar. One parent and the student must attend. There are several important changes for the coming year and intent forms must be signed and turned in by the MANDATED DEADLINE – March 18. See Guidance if you have questions.

26 Scholarships available this year in one application. In addition to application, two reference letters and resume, you must submit a separate essay (at least one paragraph long) in support of each scholarship for which you have applied. Turn in to Guidance by the end of the day Tuesday, March 15, 2016. Late or incomplete applications will not be considered.

WEDNESDAY: Attention all Student Council members: Student Council will meet during Homeroom on Wednesday, February 1, in A113, Ms. Joyce’s room.

WEDNESDAY: There will be a meeting of the Russian Club this Wednesday during Homeroom in room C220. All are welcome.

KCE High School Rec Basketball Draft Night is WEDNESDAY, February 3rd at 7pm in the KMS Cafeteria. All players must be registered before the draft to be eligible for the league. All players are encouraged to attend draft night – pizza will be served! Signup online on the KCE website TODAY!

WEDNESDAY: LEAF will hold a FAFSA DEMONSTRATION session on Wednesday, February 3rd, 2016 at 6:30 PM for high school seniors and their parents at the LEAF Resource Center at 8221 Auburn Road. The session will show parents/students how to file the FAFSA electronically at home. Please register online or call LEAF at (440) 358-8045 to reserve a seat or make an appointment. Reservations are required, capacity is limited.

ATTENTION JOB SEEKERS: The new Party City in Bainbridge (in the Walmart plaza next to Gordmans) will be opening in March! Looking for part time energetic employees who would like to work in a fun fast paced environment! They will be doing hiring all next week (Feb1-5th) in the old Halloween city location formerly the circuit city M-F, 8-4. You can also apply online!

JANUS: Attention all creative writers and artists! Janus, Kenston’s literary magazine, is now taking entries for this year’s issue. We are looking for all types of writing and artwork to showcase Kenston talent. Please stop by A119 for an entry form (or see your English or art teacher). The deadline for entries is February 12.

The Chagrin Valley Woman’s Club Scholarship applications have arrived in Guidance. Deadline for application is NOON on Friday, March 4, 2016. Late or incomplete applications will not be considered.

Reminder to all students who took or are taking AP courses this year.Registration is underway for the AP tests in May; deadline to register is March 11. Tests are $92 EACH and registration forms are available in Guidance and also on the Guidance page of the website. Bring a check payable to “Kenston Board of Ed” along with the form to the Guidance office by March 11, 2016.

ACT NOW! Deadlines approaching for these SUMMER OPPORTUNITIES!

*Attention students age 13 to 18 interested in the environment and nature. Holden Arboretum offers a junior volunteer program this summer, June 13-July 29 and is looking for interested volunteers. Must commit volunteering two or three HALF-DAYS (Tues/Thurs) or (Tues-Wed-Thurs) throughout the program. Application available in Guidance. One recommendation letter required. Deadline for applying is Friday, March 11, 2016.

*Lebanon Valley College hosts a Health and Biomedical Sciences Summer Campfrom July 10-15, 2016. Engage in hands-on laboratory investigations; interact with practicing professionals in the fields of medicine, physical therapy, toxicology, genetic counseling and biomedical laboratory research. The camp is a fun, challenging and engaging college environment for those interested in becoming a biomedical scientist and health professional. More details in Guidance. The college is located near Philadelphia.
