Ohio Middle Level Association Student and Parent of the Year Award

Student of the Year – Hannah Fender

Congratulations to 9th grader, Hannah Fender, who has been awarded the 2017 Student of the Year by the Ohio Middle Level Association Executive Board members for demonstrating qualities of good citizenship and making a positive contribution to both the school and the community.  She was selected for her accomplishments during her middle school career.

In addition to maintaining a 4.0 G.P.A. throughout her middle school career, as a member of S.T.A.N.D, she displays leadership in her frequent role of introducing school speakers at yearly all-school functions, participating in anti-bullying videos and spearheading the efforts of her fellow S.T.A.N.D. committee members blanketing lockers with sticky notes after school hours so that students arriving the next morning are greeted with positive, affirmative messages.

Her contribution to school and community was displayed in part by two of her English class projects which have transpired into touching and impactful outreach in partnership with Down Syndrome organization, The Upside of Downs, and Planting Hope.

Parent of the Year – Shelly McDonough

We’d like to recognize Shelly McDonough as the 2017 recipient of the Parent of The Year Award for her significant contribution of time, service and leadership to the Kenston Middle School.

She is a co-chair of the middle school’s PTO fundraiser where she wrote and directed the all-school assembly to promote the October 2016 all-school dance. Shelly also runs the Bomber Hangar and it is not uncommon to see Shelly helping out at the Scholastic Book Fair, Staff Appreciation Week, volunteering at school musicals, and concessions at quarterly KMS dances.
