The Cleveland Cavaliers
Left to Right: Kyrie Irving, Lebron James, Kevin Love
The Cleveland Cavaliers 2016-2017 record is 29-11 as of January 18. On Monday January 16 Martin Luther King day, the Cavs lost to the Golden State Warriors 126-91! Kevin Love suffered from lower back tightness in the second quarter and did not return for the second half. He is listed as day-to-day. Kevin Love was back in the lineup on Thursday, January 19 when they faced off against the Phoenix Suns. The Cavaliers pulled out a win with a final score of 118-103.
The first preview of NBA Saturday Primetime this year consisted of the San Antonio Spurs playing against the Cleveland Cavaliers. The game was a thriller and both teams played as if it were a playoff game. The game went into overtime after Lebron James made a game tying three from almost mid-court! In overtime it seemed as if the Spurs wanted to win more than the Cavs, but with .6 seconds remaining in overtime Kevin Love got a good look in the corner for another game tying three, but it grazed off the rim. The Cavs came up a little short with a final score of 118-115! Hopefully the next previews of NBA Saturday Primetime will be as entertaining as the one that took place this past weekend.
The Cavaliers currently have a record of 30-12 and have the third best record in the NBA as of Sunday, January 22nd. The Cleveland Cavaliers next game will be away against the New Orleans Pelicans tonight Monday, January 23rd. The Cavaliers lost to the New Orleans Pelicans with a final score of 124-122. Kyrie Irving set a career high with 49 points scored, but the Cavs still came up a little bit short. This is the Cavs fifth loss in seven games and it has Lebron stating, “We got to figure it out.” Brad Daugherty also believes that “the Cavaliers are not going to win a championship with their current team and they desperately need to make some changes.” Hopefully the Cavaliers will pick up a win on Wednesday, January 25 against the Sacramento Kings. The Kings beat the Cavs last night 116-112 in overtime! This is the Cavaliers third loss in a row and it has Lebron stressing need for improvement in his recent statement, “we just gotta be better.” The Cavs next game will take place on Friday, January 27th against the Brooklyn Nets.
The Cleveland Cavaliers defeated the Nets with a score of 124-116. Kyrie Irving and Lebron James combined for 59 points and the Cavs broke their losing streak. On Sunday, January 29th the Cavs beat the Oklahoma City Thunder 107-91. Russell Westbrook had a triple double, but it still was not enough for the Thunder to beat the Cavs. Lebron, Kyrie, and Tristan Thompson were the leading scorers for the Cavaliers and they combined for 73 points! The Cavaliers played against the Dallas Mavericks for the last game of January. Kevin Love did not play due to stress in his back and the Mavericks beat the Cavaliers 104-97. The Cleveland Cavaliers turned the ball over for a total of 17 times and the mavericks scored 15 points off the Cavaliers turnovers, so that played a huge part in the game. The Cavaliers ended the month with a record of 7-8 and was definitely their worst month of the year.
Lets see if the Cavaliers have a better month in February starting off against the Minnesota Timberwolves Wednesday, February 1st. The Cleveland Cavaliers got a well deserved win against the Minnesota Timberwolves with a score of 125-97! Kyle Korver set a season high 20 points and has Cavaliers fans very pleased. The Cavs defense was also a big factor and they held Minnesota to 37 points on 31.3 percent shooting in the second half. Lebron James, Kyrie Irving, and Tristan Thompson all had double-doubles, too. Maybe the Cavaliers will start a win streak and will be victorious against the New York Knicks on Saturday, February 4th.
The Cleveland Cavaliers beat the Knicks 111-104. The Cavs were up by 27 points with two minutes left in the third quarter, but the Knicks never stopped competing and Brandon Jennings helped out b y scoring 23 points. The Cavaliers outlasted the Knicks and Kevin Love had a double double, and Lebron scored 32 points. On Monday, February 6th the Cleveland Cavaliers beat the Washington Wizards 140-135! This high scoring matchup was a very entertaining game and the two teams battled in overtime. Lebron James set a career high with 17 assists. Kyrie Irving put on a show in overtime and scored 11 points and made a game tying jumper in the corner and a three point shot that put the Cavs up with 30 seconds left in the game. Also, Kevin Love helped by scoring a tremendous 39 points. These two players stepped up when the team needed them the most and Lebron James fouled out at the beginning of overtime, too. The Cavaliers have won 5 of their last 6 games and are now 3-0 in February. Hopefully the Cavaliers keep up their success and win their next road game against the Indiana Pacers on Wednesday.
The Cleveland Cavaliers beat the Pacers 132-117. Kyle Korver shot 8 for 9 on three point attempts and scored 29 points! The Cavaliers overcame a 15 point deficit, which is their largest comeback of the season. The Cavs shot 67% in the third quarter, while only shooting 47% in the first half. All-Star weekend is coming up next weekend and Thursday will be the Cavaliers third game in four night, so coach Tyronn Lue is considering resting Kyrie Irving, Lebron James, and Kevin Love. Hopefully Tyronn Lue’s decision to bench the big three will not stop the Cavaliers winning streak and they will add on to their 4 game winning streak. The Cavs face off against Russell Westbrook and the Oklahoma City Thunder tonight, February 9th.
The Thunder beat the Cavaliers last night with the final score of 118-109. This is the Cavs first lost in February, but the Cavaliers have still won 4 of their last 5 games. Kevin Love, Lebron James, and Kyrie Irving actually played, but the Cavs still couldn’t stop Russell Westbrook. Russell scored 29 points and has 26th triple double of the season! The Thunder out-rebounded the Cavs 61-46. One good thing about the game was Derrick Williams scored 12 points of the bench and seems like he is trying to make a statement. Maybe he will give the Cavs a lift and will help us get into the playoffs. The Cleveland Cavaliers next opponent is the Denver Nuggets, which will be played on Saturday, February 11th. Expectantly, the Cavs will bounce back and get a win.
The Cleveland Cavaliers beat the Denver Nuggets 125-109. Kyrie Irving and Lebron James each scored 27 points! The Cavs are still in first in the eastern conference standings and the Boston Celtics are 2 and a half games back behind the Cavaliers for second place. Derrick Williams stated after the game on Saturday, I asked for the release from the last team, and I put myself in a 10-day. So I’m not worried about anything after that. I just want to take every day at a time and put myself in a position I’ve never been in, and that’s what I want to do, and that’s why I chose to come here.” I hope the Cavaliers will give Derrick Williams a long term contract because he seems like he will be a key role player for the Cavaliers and will help us make a playoff run. Kevin Love is suffering from knee soreness and will sit out on Tuesday, February 14th when the Cavaliers play against the Minnesota Timberwolves. The Timberwolves are seeking to win their second game in a row and are coming off of a dominating win against the Chicago Bulls. This should be a great game, but the Cavaliers should get the win.
The Cavaliers defeated the Timberwolves 116-108. Andrew Wiggins scored 41 points, but the Timberwolves still came up short. Channing Frye played well and scored 21 points off the bench. Kevin Love is out for six weeks and will undergo a scope on his left knee. Carmelo Anthony will be on the east all star team, replacing Kevin Love. The Cleveland Cavaliers played against the Indiana Pacers last night, February 15th. Lebron James scored 31 points and Kyle Korver helped out shooting 6 for 8 from three point range. The Cavaliers next game will be in a week against the New York Knicks on February 23rd. All Star weekend will kick off on February 17th will the Celebrity All-Star game. Lebron James and Kyrie Irving will represent the Cavs in the all-star game on Sunday.
The Cleveland Cavaliers will be coming off of the all-star break winning 7 of their last 8 games. Rumors on trading Iman Shumpert to the Houston Rockets are being speculated, but hopefully this trade will not happen because Iman Shumpert is going to be a key role player for the Cavs in the playoffs. The Cavaliers are trying to add their recent success by winning against the New York Knicks. Joakim Noah and Courtney Lee will be out for the Knicks tonight and Jr Smith is still out from his thumb injury, but he stated on twitter that he should be back in late March and Kevin Love is still out with a knee injury. This will be the fourth time the two teams will play against each other and hopefully the Cavs will add on to their undefeated record against the Knicks this year!
The Cavaliers keep up their successful streak against the New York Knicks by winning their 10th straight game in a row against them. The Knicks haven’t beat the Cavs since October 30, 2014. The score was a resounding 119-104! Kristaps Porzingus, (all-star power forward of the Knicks), suffered a ankle sprain at the end of the second quarter and will be out indefinitely. Courtney Lee was was suffering from the stomach flu and was reported out scored 25 points to help out the Knicks, but they still came up short. Lebron James had a triple-double and tied his career high with 15 assist! Kyrie Irving also was a huge help in the Cavaliers win by scoring 23 points. The Cavs now have a record of 8-1 in the month of February and they will hopefully keep up their success with a win against the Chicago Bulls on Saturday. The Cleveland Cavaliers are supposedly interested in picking up Deron Williams, but “it could take some maneuvering on his part to make sure no other teams put in a waiver bid on Williams if his client’s intention is to end up in Cleveland,” stated Dave McMenamin (ESPN Staff Writer). Deron Williams would be a good role player for the Cavs and would be a huge help by giving Kyrie some rest. NBA Saturday Primetime should be a fun game to watch between the Cavs and the Bulls.
Remembering the Game
Heroes Come and Go but Legends Last Forever.
The Final Game
Last Night was five time champion, 18 time all star and former MVP, Kobe Bryant’s last game of his career. He couldn’t have left the league in a better way dropping a league high this year of 60 points! Of course it took him 50 shot attempts but either way no one will ever forget Kobe’s last game. Hall of Famer Magic Johnson said Kobe’s last performance is the greatest that he’s ever seen in sports. He’s not the only one that was in awe of this game. The Mamba was getting attention from all the greats in the game right now from Lebron to Durant, Harden and former championship teammate Pau Gasol. Nothing but love for the legend last night. One heck of a ride for the Mamba as it comes to an end. Purple and Gold for life. Players come and go but banners last forever.
