Important Information for Parents
LATE TO THE BUS STOP
We request that all students be at their bus stops five minutes before the bus is due to arrive. If your child misses the bus due to lateness, parents should plan to provide transportation for the student. School buses are on a schedule and may not be able to return to a bus stop for students who missed the bus due to lateness. Please do not chase the bus down. This could cause harm and in some cases could be fatal.
If your bus stop happens to be at your home, make sure your student is waiting at the curb five minutes prior to the bus arriving. Students should not wait inside their front doors until the bus arrives. If the student is not present then the bus will not stop.
PRIVATE SCHOOL AND SPECIAL EDUCATION HOUSE STOPS AND ONE PERSON BUS STOPS
If your student is not at the bus stop for more than a week, the transportation department will assume that your child is no longer in need of our services and bus service will stop. The bus will not continue to come down your street to an empty stop and will not resume until we receive a phone call requesting service to continue. The transportation office asks that you notify us in the event your child will not need transportation by calling 440-543-9567. Also if your student is the only student attending a particular school, we ask that you call the transportation office if we did not transport your child to school and they need to be picked up at the end of the day. If we did not take your student to school, we will assume he or she did not go and we will not go to their school to pick them up nor will we go back to a school to pick your student up if the school calls to say the bus never showed up for your student if we did not transport them to school. If your student does not need a ride home from school the transportation department also ask that you notify us in advance to avoid the bus from stopping at your child’s school.
Bus passes are only given if room exists on the bus for additional passengers. Please be aware we may not be able to accommodate your requests until two weeks after school begins. We need to ensure that all riders living in those areas have seating. All other requests will be based on availability of the open seats on the bus. Other arrangements may need to be made if a seat is not available on the bus. Bus passes are required for all students in the district including middle and high school students not going to assigned stop associated to their home address. Students are not permitted to change buses or get off at another stop without approval. Parents please send in a signed letter to be given to the schools office. The office will generate a bus pass and your child will need that pass in order to board the bus. If they do not have a bus pass they will not be able to ride or get off at the stop as requested. In fairness to all, a student may only have two bus passes a week.
In an effort to keep our younger students safe, it is the practice of the transportation department not to release kindergarten students off the bus unless a parent or other designated adult is in view of the driver. In the event an emergency if someone else will be meeting your child at their bus stop, please call the school and they will inform transportation of any changes. Working together we can keep our children safe.
